Michael Pikes Home on the Net

I was born in Athens, Georgia on November 16, 1970 but was moved to Texas at a couple of weeks old. In Texas, I lived in Crockett, Cleveland, San Augustine, Lufkin, Hudson, and Beaumont, in that order. While in Texas I attended Angelina Junior College and Lamar University as a mechanical engineering major though I never received a degree. Before moving to Beaumont to attend Lamar I married Syliva Thompkins, my girlfriend for the previous 4 years. At 26 I moved to Salem, Oregon from where I commuted to Oregon State University in Corvallis where I was now a civil engineering major. After graduation I moved to The Dalles, Oregon where I work for a local engineering firm.

Below are some of my other interests that I have on the web.

The Dalles, Oregon Weather Page

In 2004 my wife and I purchased a Davis Vantage Pro 2 wireless weather station. In 2005 I had gotten a web page put together and got the weather station updating online. In the past year I've reworked the page and got my own domain to put it on. The page is updated every five minutes and if left open the page will auto refresh every five minutes. This is the first webpage on which I've tried to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and unfortuneatley the different web browsers and all their versions seem to interpret the CSS differently. I do know that the webpage falls apart in IE6 though it does look good in IE7, IE8 and the newest versions of Firefox, Opera, and Safari. Though I can read the console of the station I enjoy keeping the page open at work and at home to see what is going on. You can visit that page at The Dalles, Oregon Weather Page

Photography

I've had an interest in photography for some time though I had never been too serious about it, and though difficult at times I still try not to be. Although I have finally found myself in a position where I've been able to get some of the larger toys because of both confidence and money. I like to think its just about doing what you can with what your capable or willing to invest as long as it's fun doing what your doing while taking pictures. To that end I like to think that I just do the things that are interesting to me and I happen to now have a camera with which I can apply what I've learned over the years and get pretty good pictures. Photography only enhances what I've always enjoyed doing, though it seems weird to say considering the attention it can garner, I would say the photography hobby has or had always been a tag along hobby. I feel I can confidently say this considering the number of hours I've spent at bird refuges with only binoculars or the number of miles I've walked with only a point and shoot film camera or no camera at all. With all that said you can view my photos at my photography galleries
